Pictures Charlie Hirst has taken around Saline and on the Campaign trail.

01
Friday night on the doors!
I had a great time last night walking around the Northview neighborhood. I had some great conversations and got to see some familiar faces.

02
Northview LOVES Snoppy
In my unofficial capacity, I declare Northview to be the neighborhood of Snoopy fans! I saw so many different Snoppy welcome mats. One thing I love about canvassing is seeing everyone's yards, porches, and decor styles.

03
This is what campaigning looks like.
Anatomy of a dining room table.
This is what campaigning looks like.
A dining room table covered in projects, current, and UFOs (unfinished objects).

04
Saline & Milan
It was great to connect with Milan school board candidates, Gabe Burdette, Angela Chidester, and Thomas Faro at an event for Shannon Dare Wayne, along with Saline school board candidate Christy Lillie

05
Signs around Saline
It has been great to see my signs popping up all around Saline. Voting season starts on the 24th, just 6 days away!

06
It must be a sign
So many political campaign signs and not enough lawn! Get ready for a big ballot this year. Be sure to FLIP YOUR BALLOT. If you vote straight party, you will miss out on all of nonpartisans races and candidates.

07
Parking lot duty
I served on the Arts and Cultures committee for 2 Jazz at the Park events and this year's Jazz at the Mansion. This year I was on parking duty with Chuck.

08
Labor Day BBQ at the Curtis-Davenport Mansion
I had my picture taken with "Zilpha Davenport", who was a Saline civic leader who helped start the Saline Library.

09
Connecting with candidates
It was great to see my old state Rep, Felicia Brabec, at the Labor Day BBQ. Felicia is now running for state Senate.

10
Officially filed!
Around lunchtime on July 21st, deadline filing day, I filed to run for the partial term on the Saline School Board.

11
Bookshop duty
I have really enjoyed voluenteering at the Friends of the Saline Library bookshop. It has been a great space to connect with community members and share the joy of reading with them.

17
Hands off umbrella
This was the umbrella I carried at the first Hands Off protest in Saline.

18
IIMK
During my last 6 months with Michigan Education Justice Coalition, I helped to collect petition signatures for the Invest In MI Kids. This constitutional amendment would have the wealthiest Michiganders to pay their fair share to our public schools.

19
Do you Duo?
Halloween 2025, I passed out candy as the Duo Lingo Owl.

20
Collect at the Farmer's Market.
The farmer's Market was a great place to collect signatures, connect with our community, and educate people about public school funding.

Saline's Nature

01
What a deer neighborhood
It was great to come across this family of deer while canvassing the Northview neighborhood on 9/18.

02
Up with the birds
I make an effort to set aside an early morning each month to go birding with my friend, Crystal. We have explored many parks in Saline and Washtenaw county.

03
Trio of egrets

04
Mama crane
I love Sandhill cranes. I was lucky to spot this mama Sandhill sitting in her nest. Can you believe that people want to hunt these birds?

05
Silly ducks
We don't have a pond near our houses, but we are frequently visited by this pair of Mallards

06
Reflecting Egret.
I snapped this photo in front of the car dealership on Michigan Ave and State St.

07
Walking stick library
I visited Salt Springs Park and LOVED that they have a selection of walking sticks to use while exploring. This park also has great educational signs. I learned that my ancestor, William Henry Harrison, was stationed here in 1812.

08
The Jewel of Saline
I can't wait till the Davenport-Curtis Mansion is fully accessible to the public.

09
Lilacs
I love the smell of lilacs! I hope to visit Mackinaw Island's lilac fest
